I see another set of SD Seth Lover's in my near future....

I recently obtained a PRS SC245 in a trade and, played acoustically, it sounds amazing - very resonant, loud and full, the top end rings. The stock pickups (245's in this case) sound great for rock but they seem a bit limited otherwise. These pickups are a slightly hot PAF inspired pickup with a pronounced midrange. The neck pickup measures about the same impedance as the bridge pickup making it hotter in balance with the bridge pickup than usual. Both pickups sound great - they're just not as well rounded as I'd like.

My favorite PAF's by far are the Seymour Duncan Seth Lover's and I'm thinking I may need to throw a set in this guitar. They seem to cover a lot more ground. I have a 4-conductor set with a coil tap in another PRS and they're a perfect match for the guitar. They won't be quite as aggressive for rock tones but they certainly do the trick for old school rock - and I'm getting kind of old. :D

Lower winds are where it's at. It's not that you can't play heavier stuff with them, the pickup doesn't dictate the genre of music played on guitar; but they do sound way better clean.

True that!

I decided to try adding treble bleed caps to the volume pots in the SC245 and I'm astonished at how great the 245 pickups sound now with the volumes rolled back - so much so that I'll be leaving the 245 pickups in the guitar. They sound quite similar to the Seth Lover's with the volumes rolled back. I knew this would bring about some improvement but not this much.

Color me happy! :)

I have a set of Seths in my ES-137 -- great pickups. Were the Seths you installed in your other PRS the standard long leg version? I'm trying to find out whether a standard long-leg set of 59s will fit in a McCarty.

My CE24 dates back to 1988 and some routing was necessary to get a standard long leg set of humbuckers installed with the first pickup swap I did in the early 90's. This has made pickup swaps since then an easy task. I'm not sure if this really says much about a McCarty though. I would pose this question to the folks on the Birds and Moons forum. Someone there will definitely know.
