Maybe i didnt give the Copperheads time to break in, but i didnt like what i heard when i did install them. (2 copperheads bottom 2 stock P10R's on top).
They seemed harsher and sterile and took away some bass. I run the bass on 2 or 3 anyway. But it lacked something out of the norm in the bass dept. Maybe I'm used to the Flubbiness of Alnico as opposed to the ceramic tighness...?
When i put the Jensen P10R's back in, it was that magic tone that made me love the amp in the first place.
Maybe its just meant for lower wattage Alnicos. At least to my ears.
I'd like to try the Emi BlueFrames everyone raves about, but I am having a hard time locating them.
To each his own.
Does anyone prefer the stock Jensen P10R to anything else they've tried?
Thanx

I've used Copperheads in my Vibrolux, and they haven't turned out to be what I'd hoped for. My assessment is similar to yours: dry, sterile, flat sounding. I can't say if Jensens ( the new, made in Italy versions ) are what you're looking for. I do know those old Eminence blue frames were only made for the first Bassman Re-issue, not the LTD. And since many prefer those to the Jensens that come in the newer Ltd's, you don't see them ( the blue frames ) on the market. Someone said the Legend series of 10's by Eminence are quite similar to the blue frames. I don't know. Weber makes some good speakers that some prefer over the Jensen's. Are you using the amp for guitar or harp ?

I've had Copperheads in a couple amps (including my current Port City Twelve). I certainly didn't find them sterile. In fact I think they sounded warm with a wonderful low end. Here's a demo clip I just recored with one this morning. (It just runs briefly through all three settings on a pair of DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversaries in both full hum and split modes). I'm obviously not unbiased but I think it sounds great.

As I listen to your clips, they sound great! It must be that the Emi's sound great in some amps and in others, like our Fenders and similar designs, not so great. I do hear a little of that "mid range" the Copperheads are known for. On your clips, the sound is fab.

Perhaps it's a function of power. I'm only running 12 watts (2x6V6) into mine and in my previous Copperhead amp, I was only running 9 watts.
