1. The Gear Page is run by musicians for musicians. We listen, we learn and if we misstep we are not afraid to do the right thing. We proposed some changes to the Emporiums. Based on feedback from members, we have decided to not go ahead with those changes. However, it has also highlighted that we need some community input into what is working and what is not working for members here. Primarily focused on the Emporiums, we'd like input on your thoughts about TGP and how things work in the Emporiums for you and how you'd improve them. The discussion thread on the is here!

Those hungry filaments....most power transformers don't like them.

I wish nos were more available.
The valve arts are too mushy for me.

We've been using the Sovtek/Tung Sol "reissue" in our 45-50 watters with success. I think they're better sounding than their chinese counterparts, and not nearly as spendy as NOS.

    The Sovtek ones are just 6L6GC in a KT66 bottle. Might look like a KT66 and work anywhere a KT66 will...but not a KT66

Everyone says that but they sound different
I sat there with tungsol 6l6 and the kt66 and they bias differently and sound bigger.

Nice tube. Weather or not it's accurate is another argument entirely

A real KT66 will give you more mids because it's a "kinkless tetrode" which is what the "KT" stands for. My take is that they are more like a 6V6 in sound, but with more power in that way. Having that mid hump that's less scooped.

I bought a pair of those Sovtek KT66s. After I saw that they were just 6L6 I installed them in a 6L6 amp that couldn't handle the increased filament demand anyway. I really couldn't hear much differemce between those and the Sovtek 6L6GC that were in there. Looking at them side by side it was the exact same guts... just in a different bottle.
