Not fit??? That intro makes the song. Hell, it makes the album.

Its right up there with the best intros ever.

Except for " Walk on The Wild Side"
The Rock and Roll Animal LP was the first Lou Reed I'd ever heard ( in mid ' 70's) I just didn't even know about the VU then, so I thought the RR Animal versions were ' how the songs went' , and loved them!
Love the originals ( now) too!

    OP here.

My illogical buddies say it doesn't fit! :dunno The others like the intro paired with SJ, but these two don't think so and as I mentioned above, they cannot give an alternative. I figured the discussion with them was like those at TGP where there's always someone who doesn't like something for some reason or other.

I think the intro is one of the pinnacles of rock!

I love that intro. One thing that’s always bothered me is that it seems that Lou starts singing right over the guitar part before it’s finished. Like the guitarist wasn’t ready for him to come in yet. And then the guitar just peters out after that.
    Anybody else get that?

Do they prefer alternative versions of the song to the Rock N Roll Animal version, Velvet Underground, Mott the Hoople, or the Cowboy Junikes? Different pacing and vibe to those versions.

Wagner and Hunter turned a great song into an epic anthem. I love the Rock N Roll Animal version.

So do I, and never get tired of hearing it. I was in a band years ago that did the whole "Sweet Jane" shtick from Rock 'n Roll Animal.

i kinda feel like the first 2 measure after the band kicks in in the Velvet Underground recording is the most rock 'n' roll moment of all time, so I'm partial to that.
    but yeah, pretty sick intro.

I heard an intro and tune today that I always thought was weird, Jet Airliner by Steve Miller. You’d swear you were waiting for a Pink Floyd tune to kick it and you get BTO instead.

They turned Lou into Arena Rock. If somebody is a purist for his underground sound, Berlin type stuff, then I get it.

    It fits that song perfectly.
