1. The Gear Page is run by musicians for musicians. We listen, we learn and if we misstep we are not afraid to do the right thing. We proposed some changes to the Emporiums. Based on feedback from members, we have decided to not go ahead with those changes. However, it has also highlighted that we need some community input into what is working and what is not working for members here. Primarily focused on the Emporiums, we'd like input on your thoughts about TGP and how things work in the Emporiums for you and how you'd improve them. The discussion thread on the is here!

If you could only have one rhythm tone

I was out driving today when Tom Petty’s “You Wreck Me” turned up on the playlist. Wow, great tone! It made me think that if I could only achieve one rhythm guitar sound for the rest of my days, I could get an awful lot of mileage out that exact tone. Any one else point to a rhythm guitar sound that they could, if they had to, live with as “the one”?

    In the moment,.. hopefully.
It would involve a5e3 deluxe and my tele. Either with 6l6s or 6v6s depending on the need for headroom.

    Classic to the extreme.

I'm a big fan of a Strat middle PU ( into a cleanish BF/SF Fender amp at good volume+ reverb) for a good R&R/R&B/ blues rhythm and lead tone- just find it to be well-balanced, melodic, versatile for a whole lot of styles- brings out your soul thru your fingers IMO- dig in, back off, double stops, single lines, Chuck Berry barre chords- its ALL right there!
    * This opinion just comes with my love of say '60's music ( broadly)

Robben Ford's tone on several of his tunes, but The Brother is a good one.

Van Halen. Running With The Devil. Will never be matched. Even by Eddie himself! Never before or since has anyone made a basic triad sound like a race car!
