Judging by the rest of your collection I would guess you prefer a harder edgier tone. The SG would seem to fit that profile better than the LP std. So if you want more of the same I'd sell the LP. If that style is completely covered by the Rich's then sell the SG and keep the LP for a little woodier sound.

    Good luck.

I have 25 gutiars, which while by far is not the most on the board, would seem to put me in the top quartile for sure. I decided that this was insane, and I was only regularly playing half of them (and since the Robot, which takes care of my multi tuning needs, even less), so I decided that I take a good hard look at the half I don't play regularly, or are fully redundant and see what was worth anything at all (anything worth less than $100 is not even worth the trouble of selling, but I can't bring myself to toss them either) and see if I could sell them. The idea being that I will take the proceeds from the sale of 4-6 instruments and turn it into the purchase of 1 really nice one that will make it onto the "play frequently" list.

    I decided to sell:

El degas Les Paul, early 70's (sold)
    MIJ Fender Strat, 1987 (sold)
Ibanez V Bass, early 70's (some interest, hope to sell soon)
Gibson SG in Blue Mist, 2008 (lots of trade offers, some actually interesting)
Epiphone 7-string Flying V, 2000 (can't seem to give this away)
Gibson Tennesean, 1997 (would like to keep, but if someone meets my price, will sell)

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Youll get more money for the les paul though.

oh, and as for what you shoudl sell....
Do you play either of them regularly? keep those, if neither, sell them both.

harder to find Les Pauls in Cherry than SG's though.

I would sell the one that brings the most money, probably this one. The 1953 Strat prototype. Its likely it will be in Christys auction in August this year.

I also have about 25 guitars. I have a few that I rarely play that are non-essentials or duplicates that would not break my heart to sell.

The LP will sell quicker. I'm starting to thin out pieces I'm not playing much.
I've got 3 over @ Elderly now on consignment. They gets good traffic from serious buyers, presents them well online and I'd rather have the commission support a local outfit than the a-holes on fleabay.

If you can't decide, let the buyers decide. List both at a fair price and whichever one sells first just keep the other. Let fate solve your problem.

Boy , wouldn't that be nice although most professionals don't think it will go for that much.

My guess is that it would sell for a million. I mean sheesh! The PROTOTYPE STRAT?? SURELY my partner would buy it...

    Hell, I'd buy it...

In trying to decide what to sell, think about what is the easiest to replace when things turn around.

Sell the Les Paul. Mo' money, and SG's are sweet! I bought my SG new, and never even thought about selling it. I've pawned guitars in hard times to feed the family, but the SG has always been with me. Okay. I'm a little biased.

Play both of them for a week, sell the one that doesn't sound/feel as good as the other.
