Who would you order through? Who would you trust to get you the most bang for your buck?

I'm seriously in the market for a "Heavy Relic" from Fender, and see that there is some price variance from shop to shop on identical models. Not many out there with the exact options I'm looking for, so I'm contemplating ordering one.

    What do you think?

    I'd recommend wildwoodguitars.com

I don't want to be a wet towel here, but I asked this same question a while back, and I got enough responses from people that ordered, waited, and then ended up with a guitar they didn't like (I think one guy sent his back twice as well) that made me change my mind. Try before you buy was the advice I was given by many. Take it for what it's worth. Just my $.02

The Music Gallery in Highland Park, IL. is great - they know their stuff, though I wouldn't bet you'll get the lowest price from them. They have a lot in stock, and are always getting new stuff. They know if they have a "gem" in their inventory too. The staff is always right there, so no one abuses the equipment either.

If you want bang for your buck I'd recommend a used CS Fender. There is a lot of variety available and great deals to be had.

Well, really, I think if you're gonna special order it, it might be tough to drive the best bargain. But if I were special ordering, and I wanted to make sure that we were completely on the same page, I'd probably lean towards Wildwood.

Bruce, or Steve can get a good grasp of what you're looking for over the phone. And they've got such a big inventory, they might just have something you're looking for in stock...or already on order. I know they're currently in negotiations with Fender, on a new Wildwood 10, or similar custom run.

XKnight - where would you recommend looking aside from the obvious ebay?

These are a couple of large high volume dealers for CS Stuff.

I really would not hesitate to order a CS Shop guitar. Most people have no troubles and are thrilled with them. They are a big company nowadays so I suppose once in a while something may fall through the cracks, but I don't believe that is the norm. They have a great reputation at stake, and really seem to take a lot of pride in their work.
    Best Regards!

Dude...:rotflmao That's exactly what I've been looking for. The music zoo just sold one...it was a no neck, which I'd have been fine with.

    Good luck.

I am not so sure about Wildwood.

I have a Gibson CS Les Paul with a bad tone pot.

Been waiting for 8 months for them to get me a new tone pot.

I'd go the Music Zoo because it's a train ride away and I could check out their current stock and get a feel for what I'd want to order if none there fit the bill. Plus, they'd be right there to help me make some choices. Also, I got my Rosewood Tele from them and I'm still enjoying it immensely!

60 Strat NoNeck heavy relic, with 6105 frets. The music Zoo was great, and was able to answer all my questions. I am actually looking at some of the Tele's they have with the neck humbucker, very nice!
