I’m 60 and Polyphia has reignited my love of guitar

Seeing all the old, talentless blooze benders getting sig guitars and press over the years really bored me, and I started to slip away from guitar and more into synths and keys and recording to get my creative fix.
Then by chance I heard Polyphia, and slowly came to love them. I feel like I did when I discovers Rush, Yes and Return to Forever in my youth.
A wonderful blending of styles, genres , sounds, and challenge, so I have to re listen and practice hard to get some parts. Really has pushed me to love guitar and guitar sounds, tempos and all that goes with it again.
Give them a listen if you haven’t yet.

I checked them out recently to see what all the hype was about. These guys are really skilled players, with a very individual sound and style. I can't really say I love the music, it sounds great but lacks something in emotional depth, like the shredder generation. But I have a lot of respect for what they can do, even if it's not to my own tastes. I hope they continue to have a great deal of success.

I agree that they’re very talented, technical musicians. However, their music does not speak to me. I’m an ancient 51 year old, so I don’t believe I’m their target demographic anyway. But just for the record, I was never really into the “Shred” thing back in the day either. Talented players, just not my bag.

Thanks , I’ve wanted to check them out for a yr. I’m too lazy to find them on yt. It’s a lot better than rap

Cool stuff!
Way more interesting than any of the popular "Rock Gods" blowing limited licks over a two chord vamp...
Truly. I can’t imagine anyone enjoying nonsense like One Way Out in 2023. It’s the musical equivalent of a dental extraction.
I really like the squashed sounds in Polyphia, sonically something unexpected which is a fresh change.

But they're bending. No doubt about it. They're bending, just like boomers.
yep. Of course he tried to spin that later by "clarifying" that he didn't mean it the way he said it but his comments were pretty clear.

‘I don’t think I should do big bends like that because it’s going to sound like that era’

One can debate what is a big bend, but I just don't like the music because it has no soul. It's boring to me. To each his own.

While I did enjoy the first minute of the posted clip, I pretty quickly got bored. Kinda sounded like computerized Muzak to me. I don't mean that as an insult, it's super impressive but just didn't connect with me.
I must admit that I have a hard time giving them an unbiased listen as I find it incredibly hypocritical given their disdain for those that came before them, while they use tapping, sweep picking, sliding vibrato, etc.

Speaking specifically about that song, since you mention it, and totally disregarding the guitar parts for the moment, I can relate to the song because I have been in compromising situations before. There is nothing about Polyphia’s music that I can likewise relate to, and the music just doesn’t move me.
