WOW! I'm late to the party on this tune, and band probably! But, I've heard it a ton on the alt radio stations lately and fell in! Downloaded it from I tunes today - WHAT TONE! WOW! SICK tone, IMO. Just a great RnR tune with amazing playing and tones. That lead really gets me! Great stuff! Check this tune out if you haven't!

Yeah, that is a great song and a great band! Their old stuff is equally great as well, ie "It Still Moves". From what I've seen over the years, Jim James' main amp is a Mesa Trem-O-Verb.....amazing tone!

Now that you are Jim James fan, do yourself a good service and check out Monsters of Folk, where he collaborates with M. Ward, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis. Their self titled album was a highlight for me this year.

Love the band and I've seen them live several times, but that is about the only song I liked on Evil Urges. I'm all for bands trying new stuff, but I still haven't gotten into that album after many tries.

Yeah, aside from a few songs, Evil Urges was a letdown, unfortunately...

Note to self - go see em live.

For those that are bigger fans - what albums should I check out (or songs should I get on I-tunes)?

Okonos is a double live album that is a pretty good compilation. So you get the live and the assortment.

If I had to pick a favourite studio album is would be "It Still Moves". Mahgeetah and One Big Holiday are two great tracks off of that one.

Ha Ha, I am not a fan at all, but the episode on American Dad was hilarious.

    :huh

Wasn't Evil Urges voted best album of the year by about two dozen music publications? I thought it was brilliant.

IMHO, it had it's moments. I think I just expected more, given how good "Z" was. The first half of "Z" is pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, great band and have seen them a couple of times. I really love thier songwriting. I think 'Z' is a much better album than Evil Urges. I really cannot stand that Librarian song, and Highly Suspicious on Urges for some reason. Maybe I think the chorus' are really lame. I'll go see them anytime they come by....
Download some live shows of theirs, you will not be disappointed!

I just bought Evil Urges off iTunes a few days ago, and I think it's one of the best albums I've heard in years. Several of the tunes got airplay on XRT here in Chicago, so I had a sense of what to expect, but I'm really impressed by the whole album from top to bottom.

My only other experience with the band was seeing them live on TV--maybe a Soundstage, or Austin City Limits, perhaps? I remember liking what I saw, but didn't dive into their material at the time. I understand they've covered a lot of territory stylistically, so I could see why fans of earlier stuff might not be happy with a change in direction.

I plan to start looking into the back catalog, but in the meantime, "Evil Urges" will be getting a lot of plays.

PS. I love the "Librarian" song! Different strokes, I guess...
