What blows me away more than anything about all these VH threads is that never in a million years would I have thought the mighty EVH would be the target of so much criticism. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I'm cool with that, but he seemed so untouchable and loved by everyone back in the day. He was on top of the world and I never dreamed he would be in this position today. It's like in Back To The Future when Marty went to the future and everything was ****ed up. It's kinda freaky. I'm just glad to see Dave back in the band and a new record. That's what everyone has wanted for years and years. It must be so cool for Eddie to look over and see his son shredding his bass. I miss Mike too but the way things turned out seem pretty cool to me.

Yeah I agree he is playing like he is on fire, just wish he would lay off the wah a bit when soloing.

    They didn't.

Eddie and Sammy had a falling out. Van Halen wasn't doing much for a bit of time there. Eventually, Mike ended up playing with Sammy. Eddie wanted to play with his son. Here we are.

I think it goes back quite a bit. MA was a hired musician for the 2007 tour. I think a lot of the VH's animosity towards him has to do with his friendship with Hagar (and the fallout between EVH and Sammy). That said, when Mike and Sammy started The Other Ones and then Chickenfoot, it was the beginning of the end.

I'm not a Van Halen historian per se, but that's my recollection of the events.

    Couldn't agree more.

Congrats to Ed on clawing his way back.

And last I saw MA was having a blast playing behind Sammie's Shakspearian/Dylan-esque lyrics....everybody's happy...except for people who can't seem to let this go.

Are you kidding? Especially "Balance"? Do you prefer Sammy over Roth? (You have every right to, by the way. I just want a frame of reference.)

    Absolutely!
And while I've only heard 'tattoo' thus far.
Yeah EVH sounds good, band is rocking. Roth is horrid.

Gee thanks Universal Music, since you don't want to give me a taste of what the album sounds like in order to entice me to buy it, I guess I'll just download the whole album for free when it's released and make up my mind then.
