I'm looking for a new amp with EL34s; full of hormonic noise...

Hi, like the title states I'm looking for a new amp with EL34's, full of hormonic noise and was wondering if I could get some suggestions? I have a 2205 twin channel JCM 800 which could do with a bit more gain and goes a bit non existant in a band, an Orange Rocker 30 whos sound is too compressed and tight with no harmonic content and lastly a 2266 Vintage modern which isn't gritty enough and is too warm.

I play heavy rock/hardcore music but none of this chug riff metal and I like a lot of higher mids in my tone.

Numerous guitars all with SD JB humbuckers in.

(I was liking the look of the THD Flexi 50? But would like other suggestions also).

I feel your pain .... I have a 2466 VM and like it for some things but there is nothing like the tone of my old 4 input Marshall ..... I A/B them sometimes and its pretty fun. Different amimals completely. They do different things ....

Dude, you have a JCM 800 50 watt. Get it modded for a bit more gain. 50 watt amps get right into the power clip sweet spot, so I think you're almost there.

I would look at The THD Bivalve as well, I have both Flexi and Bivalve and the Bivalve has more of what you describe. Harmonics, power tube crunch, bright and always cuts through mix unless you bury it with gain pedals. The Flexi has great harmonics but overall more smooth IMO, the BV is generally more raw and complex......very little compression until full tilt, the player touch on strings is in total control and don't expect these amps to play themselves

On the other hand...The Flexi is easier to gig with and really likes humbuckers

They are a bargain used, some stupidly good deals if you look and wait

Don't mod your JCM800. Buy a pedal like an OCD and use it as a hairy boost and you'll have more than enough gain. Great pedal with marshalls. It'll make a 4x12 thump just right.

On second thought...if the 2205 isn't gainy enough for you as it is....maybe (probably?) the sound in your head is actually a Mesa Rectifier...? Just thinking outloud. You won't get that with a pedal, you get it with a Mesa Rectifier old school 2 channel. There's probably a lot of guys that would trade you straight across. Also, for your upper mids, you should be giving a cabinet with Vintage 30's a whirl. They are the king of high gain, upper mids. Hence Mesa Rectifier cabinet.

Hmm Thats interesting. Which would you say had more gain? Also, I'm an avid Humb' user.

I have an Orange 4x12 loaded with V30s.
I have a massive hang up with Mesa and Rectifiers in general. They sound soo American but that being said I haven't had a chance to really play about with one so I might see if I can sort that out..

If you want EL34's with tons of harmonics. You must find an EL34 amp running in Class A.
Hotcat 30, Kool Cat, or the Wildcat. All good choices. Or try a Lynx.

+1 on the Lynx. I have owned a disturbing amount of Marshalls and similar, and the Bad Cat Lynx has considerably more saturated and complex harmonic content. Blows me away every time I use mine.

I hate dirt pedals. It's dinosaur old. Amp technology has moved way beyond those floor turds.
