Now *that* is what a flame maple top should look like, IMHO. No double stained darkness at all. Gustaffson (sp?) seems to be the only other builder who gets it looking real like that with regularity.
What exactly is the wood? The Hamer website says it was "floating in a muddy bog." Is it mildly spalted or something? Looks interesting. Hamer has always made great guitars; nowadays they have some particularly interesting stuff.
yeah, what type of wood is that?
I know it's flamed maple, but is there a specific name for it when the grain's showing and what not? I really love this top, and as was mentioned, I haven't seen it on any other guitars, besides the Gustavsson guitars and *maybe* an LP or two. I love it.
Yowza! That looks pretty amazing! Jol and the gang are right up on the tip with these. There's more coverage on the Earthens and NAMM guitars on the blog than the company website which seems to be dormant right now.
I've always found over figured tops to be a little too gaudy for my tastes. That top is just nice imho, as a matter of fact, I've got an incoming baker with a top like that
