Incoming KOT

I finally got the email from Mike that my name came up on the waiting list for a King of Tone. I ordered so long ago, I sort of forgot about it. Since then I purchased a Red Plate amp that provides some killer OD. Not sure I will use the pedal, but after waiting so long I had to buy it anyway. Plus not a bad price by the way!

Anybody using one that is happy with their amps OD? Hopefully this will be a compliment to my set up and just another good OD tone!

Sorry to side track your question, but I just received an email that my name has come up to order a KOT as well and I'm curious if you orderd yours with the "High Gain" mod on one or both channels? I'm thinking HG on both, but I'm still not sure which way is best to configure the pedal? Also, did you opt for the Flat Shiny paint or normal paint version? Thanks.

I ordered the high gain on the red side. Since I am really happy with my amps OD, I am not sure how the KOT is going to sound vs. my amps OD?
I did order the flat shiney paint, just to have one a little different. I think if you want some higher gain with your set up you should probably order the high gain on both sides. I will probably end up using this as a clean boost, so I opted for only one side to be high gain.

I got one a few weeks ago and it is seriously the best overdrive pedal I have ever used. I sold my Tim and the KoT took its place on my board. The King of Tone is Analog Mike's masterpiece. Such an awesome pedal.

How is yours configured? High gain or no? I should be hearing from him soon, and can't decide. Leaning towards high gain both sides since I already have a great low gainer (Gainster).

Is there anything on the website about the paint options? How did you guys know there was one?

From the email I just received from Mike notifying me I was at the top of the list:

"We have 50 KoT pedals with Flat Shiny purple paint. Let me know if you want one of these. It's not as scratch proof as the normal paint though."

FWIW, there's nothing about the paint listed on the site, nor are there any pictures showing what it looks like.

Great demo video. I'm glad he pointed out that the 'clean' boost isn't really 'clean'.

It can be. Bobby D had the gain turned up on the yellow side, but there is more than enough volume to clean boost the signal with the gain down

yep......yellow side and can pretty darn clean, but it "warms up" the tone as well, maybe a touch of compression too. i like the KOT a lot, and i think it's a step up from the Fulldrive II, which was the dominant overdrive on the market when Mike designed the KOT.

of course, these days there are HUNDREDS of overdrives :D

but the KOT is in my top ten of overdrives i have ever played.

I too have had my email about a KOT. This is good news and bad - I am psyched about getting a KOT at last, but I am also totally in a quandry about whether to get the high gain mod to both, one or neither chanel.

Here's the thing - I got on the list for one of these before I knew about any high gain mod. I had heard a KOT and knew I wanted it. I have listened to Gearmandude's demo of the standard version and feel it has more than enough gain for me - high gain is not what I need at all. BUT everyone here is saying they love he high gain mod. People seem to be saying that you should get the mod on the red chanel at least.

Is there anyone here who prerefs NOT to have the mod at all? Does anyone have a clip of the lowest gain setting on a red chanel modded VS one which is?

I really have tried to figure this out for myself but I cannot find the info I need. PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm just going to bump this one more time.

I am pretty sure I am going to order it without the high gain mod. Having never owned a KOT I think I will get it in its original form and then I can always get it modded at a later date if I need to.

Is this a terrible idea?

Also, I really want the KOT for low gain OD as I have a load of other dirt pedals for higher gain.

I have the high gain on the red side. It made sense to me as with both sides normal, they are two identical pedals in one box. I though the the high gain side would would give the pedal more possibilities. The "high gain" is not huge but gives a bit more. We hear the "high gain" and think it will rip you head off. It doesn't, it just gives a great circuit a bit more dirt available.

I use the high gain OD and the low gain in the distortion mode currently. Lots of options!!

Certainly the best pedal that I have ever owned!

I try to word it as HIGHER GAIN, not HIGH GAIN, as it's just a bit more. But from your posts above I don't think you NEED it, but it has no down side except the $10.

Hope that helps!
