I'm thinking of getting an inexpensive (under $500) hollowbody bass. I have a Squire Classic Vibe Jazz bass but looking for something different. Recommendations and opinions appeciated.

I second that. I played a long-scale Artcore hollowbody bass for like an hour at Guitar Center once. lol. It was pretty nice as I recall.

Hagstrom Viking. I haven't pulled the trigger yet but did play one in their booth at NAMM.

I sold mine and regret it. Get one w the mini hums, not the MM style (imo).

Epi Woody also a decent choice.

    As is the cheapo Hofner.

Danelectro or a used Epi Jack Casady (might have to look for a while to find one < 500).

My Artcore AFB200 with coated roundwounds is my favorite bass. Not easy to find used. You might also look for an older Japanese made hollowbody on eBay.

No idea how they play but rondo has a 335 style semi hollow up now.
