Thanks for that. The cachet does survive: the most recent one I saw was from Chris Isaak, and that was in the last year or so.

Very good. There was one more thing about it that the bands responded to: the audience. If they felt the band was bringing it they gave back everything they had. I was at the Fillmore East quite a bit and saw some unforgettable performances. Sly and the Family Stone, the Chambers Brothers, they just killed.

I was in the audience the night John Mayall recorded his Live at the Fillmore record. I thought the performance was dull, and I thought the record was dull. But it was a good seller for him.

Allman brothers live at Filmore East.
Years later, I had the CD with me and Greg Allman signed it for me.

I buy *anything* Live at the Fillmore, by default.

Here's an old gem I discovered recently; curiously refreshing

Get HP Rockin the Fillmore complete recordings. All 4 sets on 4 discs with 4 different versions of IWOGS. The remix is amazing!

The Fillmore, the Budokan, the Village Vanguard--they're great places to play in exciting cities that are also set up to facilitate live recording. And once one cool act has done it, it becomes that much more appealing.

Add Red Rocks to that list, especially for concert films.

It's a bit different than the Roxy show, but Zappa and the Mothers of Invention at the Fillmore East in 1971 is pretty wonderful.
