I bumped into this thread in the Boss forum for those interested in what BBD chips are inside the new Boss Waza craft delay. I know some folks feel that the CoolAudio are not as good as the older BBDs, but I'm not passing judgement until I test it in person...

Any release date yet? I'm interested in the modulation they have supposedly added in "custom" mode.... Boss' website doesn't say that, but an advance review in one of the guitar mags DID.

"In Custom Mode, you can get up to 600ms of delay. However, doubling the delay time isn’t all you get when in Custom Mode. There’s also an ever-so-slight modulation to the sound that can mimic tape coloration."

Thank you, that clarifies a lot. The thing that I was having trouble with was the 600 msec mode being "cleaner" than the 300, now it appears that in 600 msec mode you're using 3 3205 chips, vs one in 300 mode, so using 1.5 as many buckets should allow you to increase the clock speed and use a higher LPF setting. Kudos!

Is this supposed to be Boss's answer to the old DM-2's that now sell for $250+?

If Boss is using CoolAudio chips then I'd assume they must be good. If Boss is using your **** in their pedals I'm sure it's like a gold seal of approval or something.

The vox Double Decca and I believe the visual sound pedals use cool audio chips as well. I have liked the sound of those.

The Cool Audio chips are the only current production BBD chips. They don't have the same frequency response, clean overhead or noise specs as the MN3005s that were in the original DM2s or even the 3205s that were in the later versions. That said, they can work very well and I, for one, would give a DM-2w a chance.

That Double Decca sure looked good on paper.... ugly as sin.... I haven't heard hardly any reviews of this one at all.

getting sick of the hype.... as in talking about a pedal that's forever delayed.

I'll get excited when someone has actually played one.

I think BOSS will have them at NAMM for people to try, hopefully folks will try it and report back with their opinions.

I tried one at SNAMM last year, but don't have enough experience to give a solid opinion.

You must not be familiar with the Malekko 919 or Fulltone CFV-2.

    you're right, I'm not!

I expect more from BOSS though... they're not a boutique builder. get the damn thing out, you've only done it 6,000 times before with 'new' pedals.
