I've been really pleased with the SC245 I traded for and received last week though as the week progressed I found the 245 pickups less and less versatile. As great as they sounded at full output they just turned flat/dull with the volume rolled back even slightly. Though I knew installing treble bleeds on the volume pots would improve this I was not expecting results like this!? I installed a 180pF cap at each volume pot - this was a suggested setup for the McCarty posted here some time ago. The 245's now sound quite a lot like my favorite PAF's (SD Seth Lover's) with the volumes rolled back to about 9 for the bridge pickup and 8 for the neck pickup. They remain clear, sweet, and detailed as the volumes are rolled off further. Nowhere in the sweep do they sound overly bright or midrange heavy. In fact the pronounced midrange with the pickups at full output is tamed from 9 on down giving the pickups a more balanced tone. From 9 to full output there are a few shades in-between the above description and the 245's full output tone. With 15 minutes minutes work my SC245 went from being a 3-sound rock guitar to an amazingly versatile guitar, and voiced just right for my liking.
15 minutes and $0.10 well spent!
