I am focusing on improving as a player and have been getting into instructional dvd's lately. I have some decent ones, but the real game changer is Victor Wootens Groove Shop. Amazing. No technique tips. No note tips. He just lays out his secrets which are simple, but opens up a new world of playing for me.

Any other exceptional DVD's you guys can suggest? Guitar or bass.

Sometimes they make you feel like giving up. Enjoyment of playing ceases for a min. of 24 hrs to 2 weeks YMMV.

I really enjoyed the Andy Aledort Axis: Bold as Love DVD. I got a ton of Hendrix chops from that one and it answered a lot of questions.

There were many sections that I'd been unable to figure out for years that he answered. It's very well shot and produced also.

The Robben Ford "Art of Blues" (Rhythm / Solos) DVDs, for me. I incorporate something new every time I watch them. Sometimes i just leave them on in the background while cleaning house or something - take it all in subconsiously...

    Rock Improvisation - Brett Garsed

Got me into hybrid picking, thinking in intervallic phrases while improvising, and playing slide in standard tuning

How to play the music of Stevie Wonder - Adam Rafferty

4 great arrangements of Wonder's hits for solo fingerstyle guitar. I'd attempted to play solo fingerstyle music before, but this DVD and accompanying booklet finally got me playing a real song.
