IPad 2 and Apogee JAm Latency issues

I just tossed down $500 for an Ipad and Apogee Jam yesterday I am quite impressed with the garage Band except when I try to track Guitar I get some latency when Monitoring it through the Ipad headphone jack, I am running a Kemper Modeler into the Ipad for guitar sounds, I tried shutting all the other apps down and Airplane mode. Anything I can do to fix this?

I am thinking of trying another Ipad DAW but the virtual instruments are a Huge part of what I am trying to do? Can I bounce audio from app to app or something?

Any chance the JAM is the issue?

Thanks

I would update the firmware on the Jam first. When you're using your iPad, make sure you're not running anything else in the background, as that could also be the source of the latency problem you're experiencing.

I use a Jam and the new ipad and never have issues.........could be the firmware or too many things running at once.

I hope its the firmware I will update when I get home. I Always make sure all of the other apps are Not running.

I am gonna try the Tascam Iu2 see if its any better I am gonna return the one one that works less.

It might be the firmware, as job suggested. Here's a link for the update:

I've been running my guitars and bass through the Jam straight into GB without any latency problems, but I make sure to close all other apps and keep my iPad in Airplane mode.

Hope you work it out.

Interesting. I just didn't think there could be anyway the JAM could have firmware. Guess I'm wrong! :)

FWIW, I've been using the JAM with several applications on an iPad 2, and iPhone 4s, with iOS 5, and now iOS 6. It works very very well. Yes there is a tiny bit of latency, but really, look at how amazing it is to plug into a phone or tablet and get some pretty decent guitar sounds! Could you even have imagined that 5 or 10 years ago? The latency will continue to get smaller and smaller as the processors get faster.

i agree that the Jam is a fantastic, simple piece of kit. Before I got it, I used to record in GB via a Boss GS10 unit with a USB connection. It was a good solution for its time, but had greater latency.

Nowadays and iPhone or iPad with whatever software one prefers is so much mor flexible and powerful. This is the golden age for home recording...
