iPod App direct through a PA?

Has anyone tried plugging there Ipod/Iphone with say an ampitube app to simulate an amp sound and if so with any success.

I wonder if i could use an Iphone for a back up to my main rig at a gig if a failure occured, or do i need to look at say a Pod instead?

Yes.
Fired it up thru my PA at rehaersal room.
Not what i would call gig worthy.
Thou i've just stumbled upon the 4 track recorder on it and it's great for ideas.

Biggest problem I see is the connections, especially that finicky headphone jack on the iPhone/iPad. I guess you can use something like the AmpLink & tape or velcro everything down so there's less of a chance of yanking the 1/8 connectors out, but I still think it's a disaster waiting to happen. Better off with a POD IMO.
