To jump out and do a cab tour of London?

What if I don't even leave the cab and just ask for a quick driving tour of the highlights??? Is this asking for stress about getting back in time for the outgoing flight? Any experiences?

I personally wouldn't. But hey, it's your flight.

Depends on the time of day, traffic in London during rush hour is as bad as LA or NYC.

Better off taking the Heathrow Express train. Faster into town and avoids traffic problems.

Also leaving the ap means going have to check in again and go through security etc. I've been in the queue to check in for 2.5 hours at Heathrow, also been in the queue for 15 mins there so its a bit random!
The Heathrow express will get you into Paddington pretty quickly, quicker than a cab at least but you're not really near the more famous landmarks so you'll need to get a tube elsewhere. If it were an 8 hour stopover I'd say its possible but not 5

No way- the queues getting in and out of the airport can be insane.

It gives you plenty of time to shop the duty free single malt shop at the airport.

Absolutely not IMO. Heathrow has some killer shops, though, and I've been known to spend an hour in the cheese shop alone.

If they serve wine along with the cheese I cannot thing of a better way of spending a couple hours of layover time.
