Absolutely terrible. Overhyped garbage. And I don't consider her fat, just mostly swollen from being a raging alcoholic.

Inside Amy Schumer is a little hit or miss, but she's dead on with a lot of the deconstruction of the female comic stuff.

A lot of guys are threatened by a woman who's smarter and funnier than them...

She CAN be. I remember a skit where she's gonna participate in a nasty multi-man gangbang to show her " female empowerment", only to have the slobby guys be like "I feel like you're not valuing my worth as a human. What makes you think I'm gonna just jump in an orgy with you?" etc. The first season of her show was pretty funny, but the stand-up parts are basically just her bragging about being a whore. Funny, but gets old quick.

I agree! The show is a hit and miss but ever since she became mainstream she is just awful.

Eh, I don't watch tv. I saw the movie (latest one maybe?) and it wasn't really for me but more power to her. Comedy is a rough business and the more people make it the funnier the world gets. I watched one of her early standup specials...I get that comedy is subjective and not everyone will like everyone. I dig raunchy comedy and she excels.

For reference, the first standup special I saw was Eddie Murphy's Delirious...my brother hand a hand in producing it, or so I was told, so there was always a copy around. That's my benchmark. If someone does a special and can make me laugh at least once really hard, they're winning to me. She did it.

Also, what's up with the fat jokes? She's like 150...what the hell kind of anorexic chicks are you guys hanging out with? It's not like she's grossly overweight or anything. She's a comic, not a Playboy model for f**k's sake. I think she's pleasantly curvy.

Are you all models or something?

Yeah I don't get the double standard. I've never heard anyone bag on Louis CK, Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Ron White or the late Patrice O'Neal to name a scant few about being overweight/unattractive.

Being funny can make you attractive but being attractive won't make you funny.

    Really?

After 12 years and nearly 10,000 posts here, you don't get the double standard?

You obviously haven't been paying attention. ;):D

That's a pretty good assessment of my feelings as well. One critic said that if you look at her quickly, she looks pretty, but look at her for a period of time and she isn't. Those were his words, not mine. In any event, I don't like her, and that seems to be the overwhelming feeling here. Even my daughter, who doesn't mind raunchy humor, thinks she's just over the top.

When the dislike is strong enough, people look deeper for other "faults".
I just don't care for her comedy or personna.

So, you can even point out a time when your opinion changed about a comic, but are sure that this time you're right in your first assessment.

Is this a learning moment for the rest of us, for your younger self, or for your current self?

    ----

I also like that going too far shows someone isn't funny. That's why Carlin, Pryor, and numerous others clearly failed in the comedy department.

    ----

I do like the random conspiracy theory from @Rikster making her dad a contributing reason for her success in comedy. I think the idea ludicrious.

I also like reading a few members going the sexist route. I'm not even sure why some people are bringing up her appearance when discussing the humor, but to do so is a demonstration of judging someone's ideas on their appearance. I shudder to think that some folks have raised daughters in such an atmosphere. (I'm happy to hear how this is a good thing, if anyone feels I've unfairly raised this point.)
