Is anyone using a G3 for ambient sounds as part of a pedalboard?

I'm going to try to work my G3 back into my electric rig and use it for ambient sounds but I've only been using it so far as the effects engine in my solo scouts rig so I have no idea where to start with patches. I'm running 2.0 and will be using it on my pedalboard after dirt and into my deluxe reverb and/or my eleven rack.

Any suggestions/tried-and-true stuff y'all are using?

I have been using it on my board for delay, reverb, and occasional wacky effects. It does the ambient thing quite well. I usually use two delays and two reverbs. The modulated delay sounds great. It isn't as warm and spacey as a Deluxe Memory Man, but the swirl is really nice. The church reverb sounds good too, works really well for ambient stuff. The only thing I miss is having an octave up shimmer type reverb. I had an HD500 previously and used the octaverb quite often. It isn't a huge deal, but a bit annoying.

Lately I've been experimenting with the octave effects to simulate that POG organ style stuff. I believe the Z-Organ is supposed to be modeled after that. I prefer the mono octave though for a 12-string simulation. It tracks well and stays pretty clean with chords.

Overall I think it covers a ton of ground for the money.

Hi,

i have made 5 patches to be used for modulation and ambient effects and they work pretty well with the G3 in the pedal board after dirty pedals. These patches works also well with g3 in the loop.

you can download from this link

http://www.matteopaiato.com/2012/09/zoom-g3-patches-collection-2-modulation-and-ambient/

where you get a description of each patch in english for your reference.

Maybe are not the best sound for you but at least can be a starting point for your tweaking.

Ciao

Matteo, that really helped. I started with your presets and ended up with something different but exactly what I was looking for. Here it is if anybody wants to check it out.

Hey Wes
Thanks for the feedback and I am happy they were useful to develop you patch. I will download it later when I connect with my Mac.
Thanks

Yeah man the G3 does ambient tones very nicely, but for live use the no trails and tap tempo trail kills is a deal breaker for me. though for the first 3-6 months after its release I did use it live as part of my pedal board.

Here is a good trick for Octave up tracking, mess around with the pitch shifted delay, set it to a really short delay time, tracks very decently. With the right tweaking and delay time settings you can almost get a Pog/Hog swell in

Yeah the delay trail thing is a bummer - but the g3 isn't going to kick my flashback off the board so I'm hoping that by leaving my flashback on it will make it so that the trails thing isn't so terrible.

The lack of trailing delays was a deal breaker for me as well. Sticking with my M9.
