It is likely to strip off any wax or polish, but it would take a lot of fluid and time to damage a modern poly finish. Any overspray is likely to evaporate. It is always best practice to place a cloth over the finish when disassembling just to keep the habit. A nitro finish or an acoustic is more suseptable to damage.

a lot of the contact cleaner propellant is ice cold and can cause bloom problems if the finish is susceptible .

You might tryig cleaning with nathptha. It shouldn't damage cured nitro and won't damage a catalized poly finish either. Great cleaner.
