Why do humans get more enjoyment out of criticizing, second guessing and ridiculing than respecting and appreciating ?

This applies to music, sports, movies etc.

Is it that the internet that has given everyone a platform to spout off and everyone feels obligated to make themselves feel a false sense of superiority?

We should work on this. It's not a good thing.

it is easier to criticize than to do something that others may criticize

    This.

Some people also need a place to vent their frustrations, and the faceless, anonymous internet is a great platform for that. I have co-workers who literally “bond” through negativity, whether it is spouse bashing, general office gossip, and blowing things way out of proportion. They feed off of each other, and its a huge buzzkill. Monday’s are the worst…

Its just easier to be a part of the problem than to try to find a solution. You can be a part of something going on around you without having to isolate yourself as the oddball positive person, even though in the long run its going to bring you down.

Low self esteem is certainly a contributor.

People are blindly competitive and tearing down others opens up more space at the top. Or, saying nice things is a sign of weakness. Just ask any 'merkin ;)

I can see what you are getting at. But all is not what it seems, depending on the obsevers perceptions of interactions between humans thing can get lost in translation. I myself like to think that I am an encourager of people not a knocker, but I am sure there is some people that would digress my imperfect notion of thy self.

Many people seem to feel the mere fact other people are better than them at something is somehow a personal insult to them and they act accordingly.

Seems like everyone on the Internet is an idiot. I just have a very convenient blind spot when it comes to myself.

Man, it seems lately I've had to deal with this a lot. I work with a couple of real smart guys on a senior management team. Generally I like them quite a bit. But they both seem to want to correct me almost every time I talk to them. And it's always over some little detail not important to the task or they have another angle they have to point out.

I'm a pretty passionate guy, very thankful for the blessings I have... I've been pretty successful and I have lots of nice things. My guitars, amps, my car, my wife is quite amazing... Etc. I just get the feeling of a bit of envy from time to time and I'm deserving of being taken down a notch when the opportunity rises. I love when it's something like "all you have to do is 'x'". When I ask them to help me with that "all you have to do" task, they come back pissed at me because it took them 2 or 3 hours to nail down. The details and blocking issues of said task don't matter much when you're just bloviating...

It isn't the first time I've dealt with it... Just gets to you a bit sometimes.

The Internet allows guys to take this crap up a notch because they're not right in front of you.
