I'm not a huge fan but, Love him or hate him...he is a great guitar player. I would challenge anyone to learn a few of his songs lick for lick and say he is not a skilled guitarist.

Obviously he is skilled, however he uses that skill to write some seriously uninspired music. It is wasted on teeny bopper pop bubble gum crap.

Interesting. If you are the "judge" in this poll, that means you feel your *opinion* is the decider.

Then apparently he only owned Albert/Freddie King and the first Hendrix records.

I voted no. He's a good singer but he's no guitar player. He may have all the toys money can buy but, in the end he's no different than this guy:

Sigh, yet another uninformed listener. Did you refuse to listen to what more John had to say, after hearing Your Body Is a Wonderland, No Such Thing, and Daughters?

    Jimi- playing the chitlin circuit.

TGP: Gushing over John Mayer; I bet if you scanned all threads, he gets mentioned more than Ritchie Blackmore by a factor of 237.

I'd agree that he throws in just enough in his current tunes to show most of us who's boss.

That being said, I'm sure he could release a pretty guitar heavy album if he and the record execs wanted. He's in a place where he can simply do the same thing he's doing right now and sell MILLIONS. Most people in a position to sell millions will choose that route for obvious reasons.
