Reframing a question I had previously. I own a champ 600 and was wondering how loud an original tweed champ is compared to the 600 so I can judge other 5 watters volume. (hope this makes sense) I'm trying to narrow down my next purchase and I can go a little louder than my 600 but not ways louder.

    Amps I'm considering:

    Fender tweed champ
    Tungsten mosaic or Cortez
    Valvetrain Trenton w/ wattage selector
    Swart str tweed

    What's your thoughts about volume?

    Thanks!

The Fender Champ 600 reissue is the lowest volume tube amp I have ever played- bar none.

Right. That's part of the reason for the upgrade. I want something fuller sounding and I can stand to go louder definitely. I just don't want to go way louder.

Peeb, have you ever played another 5 watt champ like amp and how would you compare volumes with the two?

My vibro-champ (5 or 6 watts) was WAY louder than the 600.

The 600 was much better thu a 1x10 cab, but the vibro champ was still louder.

The 5-watt Swarts are pretty loud--I had to use an attenuator to get the volumes to a usable level when getting into the overdriven sounds.

They sound great, but they are loud.

I own a 1953 Tweed Champ 600, it is a bit louder then the reissue one I tried.

    Kind Regards,
    Steve

The current Champ 600 isn't a loud amp, partly because the speaker flubs out at quite moderate volumes. For a VERY different 5W, look at the Laney Lionheart - 5 times the size of the Champ, and 5 times as loud.

The 5F1 models are LOUD. I was rehearsing with a new bass player awhile back using my tweed champ (drummer Also) when he says with amazement " How many watts is that
little amp?" I said "they say they are about 4-5 watts" he says "THEY LIE"

I have a modded 5E1 Champ that's extremely loud. Probably 13 watts out of that single 6V6 tube.

Thanks everyone, you have totally answered my question..I should be looking at 5 watters then. Anymore would really be pointless for me as I already have a LOUD Mesa. This little guy will be my home jammer I can lug from room to room. Plus it sounds likeit might even be enough to jam with a light handed drummer at least.
    Perfect!
