Kind of a shame. But the wheels fell off the place a few years ago.

That was the first forum I went to way back when.... maybe almost 20 years now. Then there was change over and a bunch of people started their own forum. I think it was called the Guitar Diner.

I came here around the changeover HC had during my join date here. I like this place, but I do miss the backstage with the band forum and live sound forum over at HC. Both were pretty active with some very experienced/smart people.

I never went to HC to read anything about guitars, amps, or music.

But there was a ton of funny stuff that went on there. I haven't found a site yet that really replaces it.

Yeah - the first Harmony Central was run by a guy in his back bedroom (Scott).

Then they switched to the board we run here at TGP and a lot of the initial people went off and split to Guitar Diner.

That board shut down when they turned it into a facebook board.

There were tons of little offshoot boards and clique-boards due to various HC instability. Then they tried to go to a totally new software package and it was a disaster.

By the time they went back to the software everyone was familiar with most of the denizens shuffled off to diverse places such as Mark Wein's Guitar Forum, the Flophaus, and I heard about four or five others.

I miss the Wild West atmosphere of the Amp Forum. Not for the thin-skinned or feint of heart.

I miss the owner gear reviews. They were great. Some were wacked but generally good when researching info on a piece of gear. When MF acquired it, they ruined it.

GC is still actively involved - there's been some staff cutbacks, but it's not dead yet.

that site was huge. The forums were awesome too.
I wonder how stupid the architects of the changeover feel now?

It went offline for awhile last night. There's talk of it going down once GC who owns it tanks. As it stands it's just a shell of it's former glory which is too bad. It was a great place at one time, until they switched software and it just got worse and worse. Layoffs are happening, some of the IT guys are getting let go.

    Just a matter of time.

I didn't wander into the map (amp) forum too often. All they cared about was the br00talz toanz they got from their SS crap lol

It was truly an awesome forum. I learned so much about gear and guitars and amps and playing from those forums. I was an active member from 2001 to 2010.

I recently went back, and it's been invaded by *******. It was like being surrounded by a bunch of old ladies wagging their fingers and saying "no, you can't say that."
