Is The Tone of a '59 Les Paul Tones Really That Unique?

    The sold ~5,000 Les Pauls in 1959.
    And they didn’t drop the name until ‘63. They were selling even more by then.

    Actually it is. They sold 5,000 juniors and TVs alone that year. Closer to more than 6,000 total.

    I think it was almost 8k Les Pauls. But bursts were 6ish.

    Yeah. Les Pauls were selling. It doesn’t fit into the lore of the burst, however. People focus in on one model and draw romantic conclusions as to why things happened.

    Gibson didn’t do things for no reason. It’s no surprise that after the Stratocaster, and their own success with the DC junior and special that the higher end models also went that route. Not only the DC thing, but having a original vibrato become standard issue.

    I'll get flamed, but it's OK. I think most exceptional LPs sound deceptively like a Tele. (And this coming from a guy who owns both.)
