Were/are there affordable ones new or used (not that I can buy anything).

Years ago I owned a requinto (mariachi instrument, tuned to standard intervals in A) and it was nice, but good-quality ones are not cheap. Bought mine in Mexico where it was dirt-cheap back then.

An old Ovation maybe? I liked their nylon stringed guitars much better than the steel strings.
