I was checking out various YouTube lessons on Hotel California, and noticed that everybody teaches it differently. Different note selection, different picking patterns, etc. But the different versions always sound good and always sound like Hotel California. Guess it has to do more with the feel & beat of the song than the actual notes played.

This is the only youtube lesson that matters on that song -

^^ That's the exact way I learned it, only in Bm as he says. I've had serious arguments with other players who learned it differently, and to me the only way that sounds right is in Bm with a capo on the 7th.

Very quietly, preferrably with your headphones on.

Thats exactly the way I learned it, Bm, capo on 7th fret. Via the vinyl LP.

I say play it anyway you like. As long as you play it and you're having fun, there's no requirement that you would be in a tribute band!

A TGP member has been kind enough to post the definitive (IMO) Hotel California lesson. Here are the solos at speed, and there are links on his channel where he breaks them down. I'm embarrassed that I can't remember his TGP name.

There's 3 guitarists all doing different parts.

I've been watching the Houston Eagles concert from '77 a lot this year.

I'm old enough now to finally get past the fact that they open with Hotel California and then play 4 slow ballads.

I wasn't able to will myself to watch the whole concert until a few weeks ago. I've had that dvd for a long time.

They always put me to sleep before. I never could get past the 3rd song without moving on to something else. They harmonize really well, and it is very interesting if you can get past the fact that they are basically oblivious about dynamics and audiences. :Devil

Ian Anderson took it in stride, which was quite good of him, given that the Eagles were JT's opening band during a tour where they were exposed to "We Use To Know" nightly...

It's funny you posted this. I really like this tune and thought, "Man it sure has that hotel california" vibe to it.

Bruce Jenner is everywhere- sign of the apocolypse.

Jenner's oldest son (the one on the special with the ponytail) is married
    to Don Felders daughter.
