Is there a trick to making a fuzz sound good through a Maz Jr?

I was THIS close to picking up a Maz Jr this last weekend, but none of my fuzzes sounded all that nice through it.

They sound just fine through my Budda SD18 clean channal, though.

Who here runs a fuzz into their Maz Jr. and is more than happy with it? Could it have been the amp?

It seemed very harsh and just not pleasant at all the ears.

The Maz Jr. sounded like heaven though, but I need my fuzz pedals.

turn the cut all the way to the left (off) and dercrease the treble. Speakers also play a role in this, I love the Maz into a greenback loaded cab and it works ok with fuzzes.

Not to hijack, but on that note, how does a Maz Jr 1x12 w/a greenback sound? I would imagine it would have a better fuzz sound than a h12 70th anniversary.

sounds great, my favorite speaker with a MazJr. I actually had the Maz head into a 2x12 open backed germino cab and it killed. plenty of low end and it added a different crunch than you usually get with a Z Best or other cab with effcient speakers

a maz into a 4x12 basketweave cab also works well with a fuzz

I run a Maz 18 Jr. 1-12 combo with an Eminence Cannabis Rex, and use a Wolftone Helium, Fuzz Factory and Devi Ever Rocket... usually stacked with a Red Snapper after. I didn't really care for the Celestion that came with the Maz, as it did seem a little buzzy to me. Dr. Z recommended the Cannabis Rex. Love it (would like to try a Tone Tubby Alnico, but haven't yet).

Also, as the previous poster noted, the key with the Maz Jr. is the cut control (according to Dr. Z, too). With a bright guitar or fuzz/distortion effect, you need to start with the cut fully counter clockwise, then adjust clockwise to taste, which is sometimes very little cut, depending on the guitar/effect combination.

the C Rex is loud as hell (ok for the Maz18 in a band setting) and is smooth. I have one in an old Ampeg to tame her high end, should work well with fuzzes, AND you get a better bottom end than with a greenback...
