Is there anything you use simply because of the "cool factor"

What is in your rig simply because of the asthetic or emotional feeling attached to it rather than the quality, usefulness, or value?

For me, it's Ernie Ball strings.... they are definitely quality, but I'm sure there is some great new string technology out there with special coatings/metal hybrids that make up an all around better string......

BUT, at the end of the day, I like the bright orange packaging and the retro appeal of my Hybrid Slinkies. It really comes down to the fact that for some stupid reason, I feel "cool" using them.

I also love EB Strings. I worked in a music store and got to try every brand under the sun. I still love the ol' yellar Ernies.

Sometimes my semi-hollow feeds back when I dont want it to, but F-holes are just so much cooler!
I may look into those f-hole covers....

I have now, just this second, officially decided on my own internal Ernie Ball vs. Martin Darco string debate. Ernie Ball wins, hands down. I'll never even try another string.

I also use plain black Planet Waves straps because I think anything else makes you look dumb... maybe a good guitarist, but still dumb.

I always use Fender celluloid picks, and only in tortoise shell.

Sure, they're not very "grippy" and they can wear down quicky, but I feel like a complete dope playing with any other brand or color (especially the bright day-glo variety - yuck).

I can honestly say that in 43 years of watching guitar players I've never once looked at a players pick and thought anything about it. Good, bad, or otherwise.

occasionally, if the moment suits me, I'll play Stairway to Heaven using my penis as a plectrum. Trust me, the "cool factor" is astonishingly high ; ^ ]
