Is there really a difference between the Box of Rock and Distortron

I have read the box of rock has the distortron circuit and the sho circuit. But I have also read from people there is a difference between the two distortion wise. Is there really a difference. If you own the BoR would buying the Distortron be redundant.

The distortron has exactly the same drive circuit as the BOR. The difference is that zvex added 2 switches. One is a 3 way bass rolloff and the other boosts the max gain a bit.

IMO the distortron is the pedal to have. I thought the BOR got REALLY woofy as the gain went past 1:00 and I thought it could use more gain overall. The distortron solves both of these issues.

Also I was not a big fan of the sho boost on the BOR. It was really bright to my ears and I already had a dedicated boost.

I've owned both and they sound totally different. The distortron had the switches which were cool to have but my hand painted was smoother, open and full. The boost is awesome. But it's not a sho. Close. I actually asked zack if he would mod mine with the switches and he said no. I also owned a vector bor and that was gainer the my hp. I love mine and I would really recommend sitting down and a/b them and see what suits your needs.

I've owned both, but not at the same time. That said, given that the Distortron has additional gain and EQ functionality, that's the pedal I prefer. The BoR seemed too bassy for my tastes. But the Distortron sounded great at many different gain levels.

So if I have the bor and i got the distorton it wouldn't be a stupid move than. I like the videos of the distorton that I have heard. I play through a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100.

I agree, but I am starting to have a collection of pedals that are expensive that I don't really use anymore. Don't want to add another. They have a distortron at GC, was thinking of trading in my Bor, Ecstasy and my Small Clone chorus and see what they give me even though it probably won't be much.

it would be a stupid move only if you are perfectly happy with the low end on the BoR. control over the low end is the only tone related difference between the 2 pedals.
