Someone offered me this in a trade. If real, I'd be getting the better end of the bargain. Seems like it might be sketchy though. Serial number says "JP #2 158"

I haven't seen any fakes with that style Nashville posts that have the allen key adjustments.

The Serial Number is key: Only the 1996-1999 Joe Perry Signature Les Paul in Transblack had a JP (xxx) type Serial Number. Run.

    Edit: Also, the inlay material used for the Gibson Logo is not proper, nor is the horns on the Headstock and the fret edges don’t have nibs (and if it was a re-fret, it’s not a good job as it looks like some fret edges are shorter than others). Here’s a place to go for some good info on Fakes vs the real deal;

    https://sonicstate.com/amped/2014/05/07/fake-gibson-les-paul-guitars-spot/

Go to the Les Paul Forum and you’ll see a member that bought a fake with the exact same Serial Number:https://www.mylespaul.com/threads/what-lp-is-this.234975/
The fakes are getting better, so it’s more common for someone to have been hoodwinked on a deal and not know they have a knockoff. I’ve seen evidence of this posted on the board where stores have been fooled (on consignment or trade-in deals), let alone unwitting buyers.

If it's fake, and I'll defer to others, it's a pretty good fake.

The black paint on the heel joint looks suspect to me. And the grovers have a strange dog ear for the screw. But others may chime in.

Odd. The signature doesn’t look right either. The “s” is not right.

Fake, but it has lots of attributes that are better done than fakes of years gone by, either than or someone replaced hardware.

What looks fake: upper headstock shape, Gibson logo, Les Paul silkscreen, no fret nibs.

What looks good: hardware, TRC, lower headstock shape. Maybe someone put new hardware on a Chibson, or they are getting better at faking them.

Most likely fake! See the back of the headstock, this is a dead giveaway. Gibson LPs will have separate layer of timber glued on each side (right/left edges) of the headstock that should be visible through the finish when seen from back of the guitar.

Fake. Headstock is way off, the finish looks like cheap plastic and is applied poorly. Truss rod cover is wrong too.

Incredibly fake. And on top of everything else mentioned thus far, nobody commented on the position of the neck volume knob. Check that garbage out.

    Fake.

I could tell from the first picture just by the color of the paint on the neck and headstock.

Above that the Gibson logo is a dead giveaway, as is the truss rod cover (should be black/white/black like a 3 ply pickguard not black on white).

Beyond that the knob placement is atrocious.

This is one of those ones that you know is fake at first glance.

Opaque paint on the neck to hide the scarf joint.
