Isolation Box Help

Hey guys,

New here, hows it going? I am planning on building an isolation box for a 2x12 Mesa guitar cabinet. This is my first project of the sort, and really have no experience or knowledge of how to get the best sound in the box. I do have a couple of questions. Here's the plan so far.

Exact dimensions still to be determined.
- Box made of one layer of 1/2 inch plywood
- resilient channels between that and sheets of 3/4 inch Sonopan.
- 1 inch acoustic foam as the innermost layer of box (?)
- small bass traps in corners (?)
- Carpeted floor

Here's where I'm a little unsure. I have never personally used Sonopan before (link: http://www.materiauxspecl.com/en/acoustic.html) and I am not 100% sure of its qualities. It is supposed to be quite good for soundproofing, though I'm not sure. It has a flat surface, would there be good enough acoustic qualities inside the box for recording?

I want to put acoustic foam within the box because I am not sure how the Sonopan alone would work for recording a cranked amp. Also, it is to my understanding that the foam is for mid-high frequencies, would small bass traps in the corners make a difference?

A friend of mine built this for a producer I work for. Don't know the exact dimensions, although I can tell you a 2x12 fits in there perfectly (on it's side).

I wouldn't worry about the bass traps, or the resilient channel. Two layers of MDF and/or sheetrock, with an inch or two of rockwool/703 on the inside.

That particular box probably weighs 400+ lbs, by the way. Hope you aren't planning to move yours up a flight of stairs!

Yeah the weight would be a bit of a problem. Not that it would be constantly moved, but I do need to bring it up a flight of stairs haha.
