Top 10 most listened to songs.

You can do so by clicking "play count" at the top where it says "artist", "album", "info", etc.

Mine are:

1. Treefingers- Radiohead
2. She's Leaving Home- Beatles
3. Holes To Heaven- Jack Johnson
4. The Middle- Jimmy Eat World
5. She's So High- Tal Bachman
6. Buddy Holly- Weezer
7. Slow Dancing In A Burning Room- John Mayer
8. Sparrow- Scattered Trees
9. Don't Panic- Coldplay
10. Un Autre Ete- Yann Tiersen

Kind of a random list as I sometimes get really into a song and I'll have it on loop for literally days. Then I get sick of it

What's in your top 10?

Your #1 is Treefingers by Radiohead??? No vocals, ambient boring noise? Hey, I love Radiohead, but that song shouldn't be in anyone's Top 10. Weird!

Filtered for songs that are from 2009 only I get:

  1. Iron & Wine - The Trapeze Swinger
  2. Pearl Jam - The Fixer
  3. YACHT - Psychic City
  4. Pearl Jam - Got Some
  5. Pearl Jam - Amongst the Waves
  6. White Lies - Nothing to Give (M83 Remix)
  7. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix, Club Edit)
  8. The Books & Jose Gonzalez - Cello Song
  9. Alice in Chains - Check My Brain
  10. Amos the Transparent - Greater Than Consequence (told you I'd been listening to it heavy rotation)
That's way more interesting. My overall top 10 is largely Duran Duran tunes thanks to having them on repeat whilst learning them for the tribute band. :)

To do this:

  • Create a new Smart Playlist in iTunes
  • The smart playlist should be:
Check "Match all of the following rules"
Rule 1: Year is 2009 (you're fastidious about tagging your music, right?)
Rule 2: Rating is 5 stars
  • When the new playlist displays sort by the play count column, descending
  • List the first 10 tracks (the most played, you've got 10 here right?)

It's my #1 'cause I leave it on loop while I sleep a lot of the time. Pretty funny actually... a couple weeks back it was on repeat the whole night and my folks had some home inspector to come check the house out and when they came into the basement around 11am it was dark and all you could see was my covered by a blanket sleeping on the sofa with treefingers in the background- the lady got kinda freaked out haha.

I must be weird; I've always preferred to listen to the entire cd from an artist. I think it's a snapshot of what was happening at that particular time in an artist's career.

That's a bunch of Comeback Kid. Cool!
I'm good friends with Andrew, the lead singer, and his brother, Joel, who's the drummer for Sights & Sounds; Andrew's 'other' band. Really, really great guys!

Cool stuff, I didn't know anyone here even heard of them. Andrew's guitar work on the first two Comeback Kid records was good stuff! I'm not much of a fan of his vocals compared to Scott, but oh well.

I mostly listen to streaming music in Grooveshark, or even streaming music in iTunes. But when I sorted it by Play Count (I had to right-click on the column headers to add it) I got this:

  • Still Raining, Still Dreaming - Electric Ladyland (Remastered) - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
  • Cheap Sunglasses - Degüello - ZZ Tom
  • I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide - Degüello - ZZ Top
  • La Grange - Degüello ZZ Top
  • Kenaniah - This Means War! - Petra
  • Go Your Own Way - Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
  • Songbird - Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
  • Round Hill - Presenting... - The Great Unknowns
  • Abilene - Presenting... - The Great Unknowns
  • Flirting With Time - Highway Companion - Tom Petty

An interesting app to use is Last.fm.
You can use their "scrobbler" which tracks what you listen to via iTunes. Then, you can look at top artists or top tracks over the past 7 days, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months or overall.

The cool thing about Last.fm is that you can then:
1) See "similar artists" based upon listening patterns of others (I also use Pandora, which uses a very different approach). This is a great app for music discovery.
2) Listen to "Similar artist radio" - for example, when I play similar artist radio to Joanne Shaw Taylor, it plays music from Aynsley Lister, Erja Lyytinen, Oli Brown, Joe Bonamassa, Ana Popovic, etc. I find it great when I'm in the mood for a specific sound but not for one particular artist.

So, for the past 6 months, my top 10 have been:

  1. Johnny Winter - Be Careful With a Fool
  2. Yardbirds - I Ain't Got You
  3. Jeff Beck - I Ain't Superstitious
  4. The Clash - Brand New Cadillac
  5. John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers - Hideaway
  6. The Replacements - I Will Dare
  7. The Kinks - You Really Got Me
  8. Television - Marquee Moon
  9. Roisin Murphy - Ruby Blue
  10. Etta James - I'd Rather Go Blind
I bet that I'm the only TGPer to have 2 songs in my top 3 that start with "I Ain't..."
