I'm really sorry to hear this. I've never seen that clip before. Thanks for posting!
I knew him through some of the guitar discussion pages and have friends who knew him pretty well. I feel like I lost an extended family member.
Any reference for this yet?
Penelope Houston posted this in the RIP thread on her Facebook page:
he had been in poor health for a while and had a liver transplant five years ago. Things finally ran their course.
Rowland Salley also posted about it on his FB page, I guess it's true.
What a bummer.
RIP loved his playing.
RIP James, I didn’t know much about his work but the recordings with CI were pretty cool
Very sad news
Iconic solo, the one he did on Wicked Game. Nowadays Herschel has to play it on every gig.
There was an interesting article about the recording of that song- here it is-
Very involved, the opposite of 'five guys in a room with some mics'.
i saw him with chris isaak many years ago at mabuhay gardens...really nice player
Another indicator that he is not as well known as he should be.
RIP James Wilsey. Hope you found your El Dorado.
Some sweet playing in this one:
Crushing news. So saddened to hear.
My band was traveling back from a gig that was 200 miles from home and we were listening to lots of CDs. Near the end of the trip I put on El Dorado and both the drummer and bass player asked who it was and where they could buy it.
The guy had IT......
Wow what a real bummer so sad
Well, this story just keeps getting *******r.
Those first two or three Isaak albums with Wilsey and “El Dirado” are very high on my list of examples of fantastic accompaniment of simple, but effective tunes.
I've been looking for a follow up to El Dorado.
Thanks Mr. Wilsey for that one & I hope your new journey is peaceful.
King of Slow indeed! (damn drugs!)
