I thought I would start a thread to privilege new/unknown jazz & fusion players so people looking for players after the big ones like Metheny, Scofield, Stern, Holdsworth, Henderson et al might have a convenient spot to check them out.

[Edit: since the thread has gone on for a few years now and there's not much discussion of jazz & fusion on TGP, I've decided to include the big ones here too]:

    Charles Altura

    Nir Felder

    Jerry De Villiers Jr.

These are my favorite sorts of threads on TGP. They do end up costing me a good bit of dough, though.

Given the posting habits of most people on TGP, the good news is that you might not spend much. The bad news is of course that very few people post about this sort of topic :)

Here's one more guy, Jim Grandcamp with Etienne Mbappe:

His guitar is on fire, and now mine is on fire in the fireplace. Dang.

Here's a friend of mine Zach Larmer. This was a live recording and video of his debut EP " Inner Circle ".

Can we count this guy as 'new'?

I'd say after a 25 year recording career and his very high status in the jazz community that Rosenwinkel is very far from new or obscure.

I also dig Adam Agati who has been with (and I think is still with) Marcus Miller.

I know Le pretty well. But jeez he has been around over 30 years. I saw him play live 25 years ago... I sure hope he isn't new or obscure at this stage :)

He was with Marcus until the end of last year. Now Marcus is touring without him (Marcus did the Santana, Shorter gig just recently) and Adam is playing with Cory Henry most recently.

I really enjoy Gilad Hekselman's album "Hearts Wide Open". Very melodic songs and good playing. Here's a live version of one of the songs from that album:

Saying "obscure jazz & fusion players" is like saying "assless chaps." The first word isn't necessary; it's implied by the other word(s).
