Anyone know an established, credentialed jazz guitar teacher in Los Angeles/OC/San Diego? Looking for intermediate and advanced lessons. Price is not an issue. Thanks for any suggestions!

Try McCabes in Santa Monica. I know they have all kinds of "Good" instructors there. Fred Sokolow use to teach there, and I took one of his courses. Though he is listed as a blues/bluegrass instructor he plays jazz style very well. He actually performs jazz at this time.

If I were in LA, I'd try to study with Ken Rosser.

Another vote for both Ken and Chuck. Ron Eschete also teaches.

I tried contacting Sprague when I lived in San Diego (up until 1998). He said he stopped teaching or something like that.

Hey Guv, that is true about Sprague - I inquired and got the same answer. Lessons with Ron Eschete - and indeed any of the above - sounds compelling. I decided to go this route since laziness has been stemming any progress as of late. I need some motivation...

Sincere thanks for all the suggestions!

Good luck, mayne! I couldn't recommend my jazz guitar teacher in SD either because he too "retired" from teaching. It's a shame because he taught the real deal - I was just too thick as a brick at the time to get a clue and retain more of the info.

I studied with Bruce Forman for half a year while completing my Doctoral degree at USC, he is an incredible knowledgable guy and he's got a unique ability to break down all aspects of jazz and jazz improvisation. I would also recommend Frank Potenza (chair at the Studio/Jazz guitar department at USC), a living lexicon on every aspect of standard jazz/bebop. Send me a PM if you want contact info or more details

I'd certainly make contact with Chuck D'Alioa now that he's in Los Angeles. Good dude, inspirational player.

I've taken a couple of lessons with Stephen. He is amazing. Is he still in town?
Art Johnson is also a great teacher if he is in town. I heard he moved to France.
