I love both my 2204 and my JTM45 and often find myself wishing there was one amp that could do it all.

Which amps combine what we love about both these amps into the perfect hybrid?

    JCM800 2203/4
    Higher gain
    Master volume
    Punch
    Aggression
    Versatility
    Crunch
    Modern

    JTM45
    Cleans
    Sag
    Fat
    Warm
    Grind
    Edge of break up
    Vintage

Maybe a 2204 with the extra gain stage, clipped bright cap and JTM voicing, and switchable SS and tube rectifier? Something along those lines?

Thinking maybe Fargen? Maybe a Dirty Shirley? Any others?

First amp that came to mind was the Dirty Shirley, though is far from perfect hybrid.

Wasn't Marshall going for exactly this with the Vintage Modern?

As simple to make a amp like that do you really think Marshall would give us that!?! Vintage modern isn't really either of those amps. If you want those amps your gonna need two amps from Marshall

I have a Fargen Mini Plex MkIII (and two other Fargen amps!). It's 12 watts. Has the Plexi - 800 switch, SS and Tube rectifier switch, and Variac switch. For my needs (home playing) it covers JTM through JCM sounds perfectly. And Ben Fargen is very easy to work with and will tailor a build to your exact wishes.

Seems the Dirty Shirley is the clear winner.

I found one Vintage Modern Combo on Reverb, but it's purple. I'll need to keep an eye on CL to see if one pops up.
