I recently broke out all my old Alice in Chains cd's for a spin. Man were those guys awesome!!

I've always had lots of respect for Jerry Cantrell and his guitar tones.

That being said, is there a higher gain pedal out there that can cop his big, fat, distorted, palm muted goodness?

I've been out of the high gain market for many years but recently I've been pushing my gear to the limits and still wanting more....er rather, different.

Is there a pedal out there that can get me back to 90's Alice in Chains through a relatively clean amp?

My best friend engineered Dirt. If the sound you want is the layered rhythm sound on that record you won't be able to get it with just one box or amp. There are multiple layers left and right. The Bogner Fish and Soldano Preamps into VHT 2150 was a layer. Matchless, the little Marshall, a bassman and many more were layered depending on the sound needed for the song. Dave and Bryan would layer guitars as a way to sound shape without compressors and eq etc.

P.S. when I say best friend, I don't mean "LA best friend". We were in a band in South Dakota together and came out here in the late 80's like everyone else. He has done some great records with Dave Jerden.

There was some info on Gearslutz on the process you speak of. Pretty amazing. I highly doubt one pedal into a clean amp will get that!

I would say a Rat or ZW/OD with your Mosferatu and your new Grissom and some aggressive playing should put you close.

Try what he used live. That being said, after seeing them once and hearing several bootlegs, I feel even his live sound couldn't match what those incredible records sound like.

FWIW, I've not ever heard a pedal that could get that sound...Jerry's sound is that is 2 (or more) amps blended together but past that he had some rather choice amps, like the FISH preamp!
