I'm embarrassed by how long it took me to find out about his guitar playing, especially since my dad was a country and early rock & roll kind of guy. For decades he was just the actor who played my favorite character in Smokey And The Bandit, a film I saw when I was a kid back in 1977!
Love Jerry Reed... always have. Great storyteller and a fabulously talented guitar player.
My Dad bought me the Amos Moses 45 when I was a little kid and I wore it out (Preacher and the Bear was flip side). I even named one of my old dogs Amos Moses (RIP)
Jerry Reed ALWAYS looked like he was having a blast, and so did everyone who played with him. Chet Atkins, Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, etc were cracking up whenever they played with Jerry. And you can tell the band members really liked him, regardless of the setting. He seemed like such a genuinely real dude... like your funny, crazy, lovable uncle.
Who just also happens to be a world class guitar player and showman ( and not a half bad actor).
