I thought I would start a thread on these, I think they got lost in the other thread w/ Scott and Dan. Jinshi is such a soulful player. I had a blast playing w/ him.
Smoking guys! Jinshi has really good time. His comping feel is really great! I do wish he'd turn on the afterburners though. He has fantastic chops, but seldom uses them.
Dig Jinshi's fat tone and love his vibrato. You both sound great together. I have an affinity for guys that "mumble" when they play. It helps my phrasing to "sing" while playing - at least internally. It breaks up the phrases in places that singers or horn players would take a breath. Sometimes guitarists and pianists can play endless long lines that risk losing the listener. Not that it is always about the listener.....
Thanks for sharing! I used to hang out Jinshi a lot when we were students at Berklee. .. we practiced together playing jazz standards a lot. He always played amazing solos! It was great way for me to learn "comping"
Nice to see Jinshi at NAMM.
