Anyone done it? I know Eurotubes says it's fine but I'd like to have someone who's used this set up to tell me how it sounds... I've heard the biasing can only be like 30mv max for these tubes in the Deville, where as in the Deluxe they can go up to 40mv. Didn't know if this took the warmth out of the amp or what. I was looking to lower the output a little bit using the 6V6s, and the thing needs new tubes anyways so.. Any opinions are appreciated!
    Thanks!

Did this with my Blues Deluxe Reissue. Definitely need to rebias - Eurotubes has a good instructional video on how to do this with some recommended bias settings. To me, it didn't sound like it lowered the output - it is still loud as hell. It did allow for the earlier onset of breakup though. Personally, I like the tone and don't want a perfectly "clean" clean tone.

Thanks. It won't lower the blues deluxe much b/c you're dropping from 40 watts down to 30.. I'm hoping there's a big volume drop for my Deville, but I don't know how biasing so cold will affect things.

I sent mine to Jim Price at Omega mods. the mod makes the amp seems much less in wattage and very usable to gig with. both channels are great at normal volume; we mic the amps and I can use the amp at volume 1 or 2 and it sounds great. well worth the price, and it wasn't that expensive. call Jim at Omega amps in North Carolina.

I just did this to my 2x12 deville last week.

Takes a little while longer to heat up the tubes since you run them hot.

Since they're JJ's, they can be turned up quite a bit.

I've had no complaints so far. Sounds good, and a lot more useable.

The max for them is 35mv, which is just about what I ran it at. Give our take a few .0's

I have a 2x12 HRDV that I put Yellow Jackets in and it sounded great.
I would imagine that the 6v6 would sound great as well.

There probably will not be a big volume drop. There will be
a loss of some bottom end, not much. you will run out of
headroom rather quickly which will give you some nice OD
at a lower volume. However even though you cut the output
in about half, it will still be plenty loud.

I did this in a Blues Deville 2 years ago. Plate voltage was 480 volts but no problem for the JJ's. Decreased headroom somewhat but not dramatic.

The JJ 6V6s are part 6L6, part 6V6, so while that can stand up to the power and voltage better that other 6V6s, they also respond more like 6L6s

I know it's not going to be a huge drop, but since the 6V6s will make it about 30 watts I can run the new THD speakers I bought without any worry.. And I use lower gain preamp tubes so I can probably get a little more headroom. Thanks for all the input though guys. I would do Omega mods, but if I'm going to spend $300 I might as well just get a new amp head to run through the deville cab.
