I love the JTM45 but am checking out a JMP 50 watter modded to '68 specs.

Will an added master vol. help in small venue situations or will it be a tone suck? It will be a post phase inverter MV

I have never a-b'd these are there big differences in tone?

Thanks

I never have heard an after market master volume that didn't sound ratty and metallic on a plexi or JTM 45. Maybe in the last six months something has changed, if so I'd like to know. I'd rather just live with an attenuator or powerscaling.

Sounds like your looking at Metro. The Lar/Mar MV is excellent and much better than heavy attenuation. It's based on Ken Fisher's Type 2 with some changes. Ceriatone is now using this design as well. The JTM45 is cleaner and relates more to an AC/DC( Malcolm) tone. The JMP50 has more gain and is more VH in character. That being said they both get excellent tone. Check the Metro forum for more info.

Nope...

Mal liked the Super bass. It's Angus that rocked the JTM 45.

Yes there's a diff. The 45 is looser and darker. More blues in my opinion, but can be good for Rock too. IMHO the circuit needs a few tweaks to get rid of some flubby/boomy lows.

The JMP is gainier and brighter and tighter sounding. It kind of picks up where the 45 leaves off... Great dirt and crunch, cleeans are OK but not as good as the 45.

I like them both.

Can you not hear examples of these before you buy...even if they're not the exact same amps it would help you I bet.

Thanks Jack

My Winfield November is a JTM45ish head using EL84's. Id like to A/B it with another JTM45 KT66 tube head.

As far as side by side of the 45/50 maybe a local GC may both ?
