What fret size does he use? 6150? 6105?

I'd guess it's small vintage. But on one pic they look a little bigger. On Snow Hey oh it's got that real woody, warm, flat sound that the small fretted strats usually have, it's like the fretboard actually mutes a little top end out or something. Try the small frets, they sound just like his strat sound on Snow, Under the Bridge, etc..

Isn't the pickguard screw above the middle pickup in the wrong spot for a 62? new pickguard maybe

Those don't look like the tiny vintage frets.

Maybe 6105s which are vintage width but taller. Cool shots.

I lalways iked the 60's green one he played in the under the bridge video. I always wanted to get one like it, and nearly did recently, but I wanted a maple neck. Too bad he pawned all his guitars off when he got hard on the junk. Anthony Kiedis bought him that 57 as a present I believe, to help him get back in the band.

Isn't under the bridge a Jaguar? That's what I thought and that's what it sounds like to me.

I remember reading a quote by J.F. stating he didn't have his stratocasters with him during the video shoot and the director had him play this "old ugly fender". If memory continues to serve J.F. said he never liked that guitar.

Also, some behind the scenes footage shows John playing the strat during the house sessions for Blood Sugar Sex Magik...

Oh, ya. You are right. I guess it has been 15 years since the video came out. I always thought it was a strat like the nice 60's green ones fender sells now. It is an ugly old fender (mustang?), I hate painted matching headstocks.

Check out Funky Monks for all questions regarding the making of that album. It's also just a cool movie. John's pretty out there but I'm a lifelong Chili Peppers fan.
