    How many does he have?

Someone lent me his Continnum album yesterday, and I swear that the picture in the middle of his studio gear clearly shows 3 Dumbles stacked together with a Two Rock.

How would he get hold of those? I thought it was hard enough to get one?! :)

    Cheers
    Jordan.

ps. Please don't let this thread de-generate into either Dumble or JM bashing...I'm purely asking if he actually has more than one, or if I mis-interpreted the picture.

They aren't that hard to get a hold of. All you've gotta do is offer enough cash to have someone part with theirs. John obviously doesn't have a problem achieving that.

After that, making more $$$$$$$$$$$ helps.

I read on the forum here (always take a sizable grain of salt with that) that JM's personal Dumble count is at 13-14. Not sure if that's feasible, but that's what floated around these hallowed halls.

Kind of OT but do guys like JM who clearly make their living making music get to take a tax deduction on the gear that they buy? Can it also be considered a depreciable asset?

I would assume with top-tier musician status you get a top-tier tax guy to structure everything correctly!

Try splaining those Dumble prices to the IRS, i'd like to be there for that.

A Dumble would be an appreciable asset....

When you make the kinda cash JM makes...the Dumbles count doesn't matter...he's spent more on Rolex watches (vintage) than Dumbles.

Imagine what the royalties are for "Daughters" alone ??!!

Yep, three Overdrive Specials and two Two Rocks.

    Greedy bastard :crazyguy

Well, at least now I have a better idea of how to get close to his tone. Maybe if I sell a kidney?

Seriously though, I can understand him owning three or four, but why the hell would anyone even want 14 amps? I have 6 guitars, and it's difficult keeping a track of all of them and playing them regularly. 14 amps? Really?

ppl on this board own 14+ amps. does JM not have his own right and even have more, if not the same, merit to do so?

Assuming you can sell it for more later. We could be at the top right now.

    Yep.
And before anyone begrudges him that, think about how much money major shareholders and executives of Sony & Bertelsman AG (co-owners of Sony BMG) make off of his music.
As Chris Rock sez, "Shaq is Rich, the guy who writes Shaq's cheack is wealthy"

on the "where the light is" dvd he says he has over 200 guitars.

thats how he can justify 14 dumbles.

you or me: 6 guitars, maybe 4 amps

john mayer: 200 guitars, maybe 50-100 amps (with 13 dumbles alone and his own two rock line im sure he's in that range).

Ok - cool - thanks for the replies guys - just checking I wasn't seeing things :)

Let's not do the "how does abc justify so many xyz?" here.....

    Thanks for the replies.

    Cheers
    Jordan.

no telling how much gear he has........I have heard 200+ guitars also, which I am sure is accurate. There was a vid on youtube that showed him in a studio with tons of effects layed out ( I remember a large stash of TS808's laying there)....anyone have a link to that vid? Seems like it was a "making" of some song or album....

John said in a Tone Quest article taken in 2005 that he owns 4 Dumbles.

Through the years I've seen him with this:

Also, inside the Continuum booklet there's 3 ODS heads not sure about those though..

John also has a couple Dumble cabinets. The little blonde 1x12 with the EV speaker and the big 4x12 one.

He also has several Dumblelators (I & II).

If I had his cash and his hands, I'd buy all the dumbles I could find, but make sure I had enough $$$ left over for dinner with Ms. Anniston!
