I'd be happy with JM's talent and success. Clearly YMMV.

Envy isn't always bad, it depends how you channel it. IMO.

Still, haters gonna hate. Kinda like moths to a flame, flies to ****,... sadly, you can count on them coming to any JM thread.

With the latest Kemper FW versions (v1.3+ I think), you can profile just the pre, or pre/power section, or the cab, all separately. It makes the profiles aftermarket somewhat confusing, but ATM there are a ton of options:

    • Studio Profile (original profiles, whole system)
    • Direct Profile (preamp)
    • Direct Amp Profile (preamp + poweramp)
    • Cabinet Preset (e.g. IR)
    • Merged Profile (whole system, created from a Direct + Cab preset)

So Mayer could have created Direct Amp Profiles easily.

No ego, he just knows his audience. His periscope the other day had 4 MILLION+ viewers... that's live on a whim. 99% of that audience are teenage girls and women who follow him on Instagram to see pictures of his FACE, not his Dumbles or his Kemper. Read the comments. Most are from women saying they prefer the right side of the photo.

    Those are just the facts.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, $2,500 head. $25,000 cab! It's usually the other way around.

I hear that PRS is paying him too much money. He'll stay put as long as he has a contract. All the power to him.

I think you're making it sound a bit more complicated than it is. ;)

the most common process is to make a studio profile (the 'normal' profile in a manner of speaking)
and a direct amp profile, taken from in between the speaker out(!) of the amp and the cabinet.

then these two are combined by a simple copy and paste operation into a merged profile.
if you use it with the cabinet on (to FOH for example), it's the whole chain, but if you switch the cabinet off, or use the monitor out with the cab disabled,
you'll have the authentic raw amp sound, including the power amp signature - which is perfect if you prefer to monitor yourself through a guitar cabinet.

He's a great player. Even Clapton says so. :) He may not be a like able person but that's beside the point.

    You could be right.

But I don't think I was inaccurate: there ARE, in fact, 5 different profile types now. It's not a bad thing, it just is what it is. It makes the Kemper that much more of an awesome tool.

I'm not the least surprised that a touring musician's is using a Modeling Amp
for their practice rigs. I am surprised to learn that most are not availing themselves
    of this type of technology.

4 types of profiles: studio, direct amp (with power amp), direct (without power amp) and the combination of one and two, the merged profile.
the cabinet portion is either a part of a studio profile, or an imported IR
    ;)

I'm happy to see his practice rig, as I've been doing something similar, ie running my Kemper into a small EH power amp and a 1 x 12" open back cab.
I'm a combo guy , so this works very well for me, using a handful of my fav. combo profiles.
Now, if Mr Kemper would consider making a Kemper Jr. it would be perfect for this purpose.

I was just going by the manual which calls them "Cabinet Profiles." When I was upgrading to 3.x and I was having a hard time keeping track of the various profile types in the manual, I wrote them all down to keep them straight.

    I'm slow like that.

Yeah, a "Profile Player" in a pedal format and a very minimal interface would be pretty epic!

    This.
He connects his favourite cab to his amp, tweaks it the way he likes most, and takes a direct profile of the amp the way it sounds through the cab.
When he uses that profile with the same cab, it sounds identical to the original rig.

    :)
