Why would I ask someone like him to do that? It'd be pointless.

1/3 of TGP would complain about the test methodology, 1/3 of TGP would complain about him being a talentless hack (therefore the test is invalid), and the last 1/3 would find something random to complain about just to up their post count.

Depends on how good/familiar the PA is.

True. But if it's a powered rack you really just need to know there is a decent cab at your destination that you can plug into.

And the Edge from U2 uses Axe-FX as travel units.

    And the debate continues.

The manufacturers love releasing this type of info so we all go out and buy there latest stuff, thinking it will make us sound like xxxxx artist.

We all know there's alot more to it than that .....

To me makes all the sense that Edge chooses the Fractal above any other digital unit, as it does Mayer with the Kemper.
Very different players, with different approaches and sounds.

Personally i don't feel there's one digital unit that fits everyone.
For some it's the Axe Fx, other's the Kemper, other's Boss etc etc etc.It depend's on multiple factors.

Including price, because for us "normies" sometimes the price of Fracal or Kempre stuff is out of reach.

Just curious, but are the Axe FX's used by the big profile players (The Edge, Metallica) programmed completely by the players themselves, or do they have techs/consultants to do the tweaking? Somewhere I got the possibly mistaken idea that some of the big name players have others do the Fractal programming, although there are some like Dweezil Zappa that does his own programming.

Some of the high profile users of the Kemper have the profiles made during the recording of their albums, and the Kemper allows those same tones to be used live.

I wonder if some of the criteria for deciding which unit to use depends on factors such as if their roadies can do most of the setup, or if the artist has a specific amp he loves and wants that specific tone portable while leaving the amp at home.

I think it's a bit of both. Some are very hands on, while others take queues from the latest and greatest gear because their guitar tech tells them about it. Others just make the executive decisions and give their tech a thumbs up or down.

It's like guitars: a lot of us would experiment with pickups and string gauges and effects if we had a guitar tech on the road with us 7 days a week and changing pickups was as easy as telling someone else to do it. :)

Great, now we get to fight over the definition of "Decent Cab".

I have a sneaking suspicion that he uses it live but doesn’t say anything because of his PRS endorsement

I hope he profiled his old JTM-45 clone, because that amp gave him the best tone he ever had.
